11 January 2026
Juventus Women kicked off 2026 in the best possible way, coming from behind to defeat Roma 2-1 to win the Italian Women's Super Cup—the fifth in Juventus' history, achieved thanks to a stunning Cristiana Girelli goal in the 85th minute, which settled the match after Vangsgaard had equalized with an early strike from Giugliano at the end of the first half.
Let's revisit a wonderful day by recounting what happened on the pitch.
MATCH REPORT
It was a rainy day in Pescara, with a slippery pitch and heavy rain at the start of the match between Juventus and Roma, and after eight minutes Viens's saw a shot fly wide of the target.
A response came forty seconds later at the end of a great move by Juventus: Beccari broke free on the right, with Cambiaghi then dummying the ball for Carbonell to fire off a shot while on the run from an excellent position, with Baldi deflecting the ball into a corner.
In the 23rd minute, Roma had a breakthrough with a goal from Giugliano, assisted into the box via a low cross from the right by Viens.
Juventus' response came five minutes later, with Stolen Godo intercepting a mistimed Giallorossi pass, but her curling left-footed shot went just wide of the target.
In the 40th minute, Juventus put together the right move to get the match back on track: once again, Beccari found space on the right and sent a low, driven ball into the six-yard box. Baldi's attempted intervention wasn't the best, and the ball fell to Vangsgaard, who fired home from close range to make it 1-1.
The two teams thus went into half-time tied.
Greggi's shot from the edge of the box opened the second half, following a pass from substitute Pilgrim, but De Jong easily blocked it. Under pressure from the Giallorossi, Canzi's team attempted to respond by looking for space on the flanks, but were unable to create any threatening opportunities in the first quarter of an hour of the second half.
The first Juventus substitution came in the 68th minute, with Girelli coming on for Cambiaghi. The big opportunity of the second half came in the 72nd minute, courtesy of Viens, who managed to escape the Juventus defense but, one-on-one with De Jong, fired high over the crossbar. Seven minutes later, De Jong was once again the saviour, with a save from Viens' shot from close range.
But when it mattered most, in the 85th minute, Girelli made her decisive, champion-like move: following persistent Juventus pressure, she was quick to reach the penalty area to back-heel a shot from Lenzini and score a crucial goal, the goal that earned Juventus Women their fifth Italian Super Cup.
