Echegini, who was born in the Netherlands and raised in England, played a key role for the Florida State Seminoles in the NCAA, impressing to the extent that she earned a call-up to the Nigeria senior team for the recent 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Joe’s success in the United States is seen in the numbers and awards she achieved across the Atlantic. The most recent of those saw her among the finalists of the MAC Hermann, the most prestigious award in US university football. In December she won the Honda Sport Award for women's football as well. She was MVP of the ACC Tournament, was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, among other recognitions.

Echegini ended 2023 with 16 goals to her name, which was the eighth-highest tally in the history of her university, and she was the first Florida State Seminoles player since Manchester City’s Deyna Castellanos to manage double figures of goals in multiple seasons.
