On the eve of the Women’s Cup final against Roma, Martina Lenzini and Isaac Guerrero spoke at a press conference to preview the match.

“Juventus-Roma has now become a classic fixture in women’s football and I expect a hard-fought final, just like it was in the first edition of the Women’s Cup. I don’t think knowing each other so well brings any particular advantages or disadvantages: this isn’t a league match and finals are always unpredictable. We have a little more experience in these kinds of games, but Roma also have players who are used to playing in finals, so it will be an open contest.
“I wouldn’t talk about wanting revenge for what happened last season: we are the current Women’s Cup holders and, whether it’s a final or any other match, Juventus always take to the pitch to win. We have to do it for the Club, for the team and for all the people who work at Juventus. Winning this trophy would certainly be a reward for all the work we have put in over these two long months, because we started very early.
“It would be a reward, but also a new starting point: we are always told that this is a process and, whatever the result, it will help us continue working and developing. In a final, the most important thing is our spirit, our determination to keep playing right until the end. It’s our motto, but it isn’t just something we say: it’s something we try to pass on to the new players who join us.
“Every final brings a few butterflies, but we also feel a great sense of responsibility and happiness at having the opportunity to play such an important match. The coach and his staff are preparing us for every detail so that we can bring our style of play onto the pitch. Do I feel like one of the senior players? I probably have become one over time. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from those who were here before me, trying to take as much as possible from them.
“With Barbara’s departure, I can now join Cecilia and Martina even more in that role, because we are the ones who have always been here and we know exactly what it means to play for Juventus. Moving up the hierarchy a little makes me proud, because it means I must have done something right over the years.”
ISAAC GUERRERO
“The excitement of playing this final comes with responsibility. We know which team and which Club we represent: winning is something you are asked to pursue every single day when you step onto the pitch. It’s a mentality we have had from the very beginning. We started working in July with the major objective of qualifying for the Champions League, and this final comes as a reward for the start we have made to the season and for the work the players have put in.
“I wouldn’t call it pressure, but rather pleasure, responsibility and the opportunity to be at a club like this, which gives you the chance to compete for major honours. This week there has definitely been a strong sense of playing classic fixtures: first Inter and now Roma. It’s a fantastic match against last season’s champions and another opportunity for us to raise the bar. Facing teams of this level helps us and pushes us to improve even further: it accelerates our learning process.
“I’m not worried about the number of matches, I’m focused on dealing with them. Competing in important matches right from the start is an opportunity, especially for these players, who are extremely competitive. I see them every day: they constantly challenge themselves and have shown that they are ready, first earning the opportunity to compete in the Champions League and now the chance to play in another final.
“They have also shown that they know how to dig in, that they have experience, unity and resilience, but our aim is to suffer less and make sure our football is what drives us towards victory. We want to impose our intentions, dominate more and have less need to press that ‘red button’ of determination and resilience. Courage will be hugely important: these players show it when they defend the penalty area, when they play one extra pass and when they don’t panic.
“They have incredible talent and, above all, they are still hungry. Amaiur Sarriegi will add even more talent to the team: she has an excellent left foot, she is dynamic, she scores goals and knows how to operate between the lines. She can play as a centre-forward, out wide or as a second striker, so she gives us plenty of options. We have a very complete, high-quality squad. Its construction is also the result of a collaborative approach: our director Massimiliano is our clear point of reference and we all try to contribute.
“It’s a team effort in which we all have to row in the same direction.”
