The Juventus Men’s First Team and Atalanta played out a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium on Serie A Matchday 5.
The Bianconeri fell behind to Kamaldeen Sulemana’s solo effort at the end of the first half, but substitute Juan Cabal got his first Serie A goal in the second half to secure a point.
JUVE START WELL, BUT ATALANTA SCORE BEFORE HALF-TIME
Juventus started strongly from the kick-off and less than two minutes in, Kenan Yildiz sent a pinpoint cross towards Pierre Kalulu in the box. The Bianconeri defender, who scored his only goal of last season against Atalanta, tried to repeat the feat with a header, but his attempt hit the post. The Bianconeri kept up the pressure in the early stages and in the fourth minute, Teun Koopmeiners recovered the ball in the final third and headed towards the Atalanta goal, only to be denied by Marco Carnesecchi.
Juventus remained in control of the game and, after a quarter of an hour, had two more chances to take the lead: first, Vasilije Adzic's shot was deflected for a corner, set up perfectly by Yildiz after Andrea Cambiaso's excellent acceleration; then Khephren Thuram's shot from the edge of the box was deflected by Mario Pasalic, beating the Atalanta goalkeeper but ending up just a few centimetres wide of the post.
The danger created by Atalanta came on the counterattack with Raoul Bellanova on the right wing, while around the half-hour mark, Adzic tried twice to score without luck; first with a shot from outside the box that went wide, then with a free kick from the edge of the box that was saved by Carnesecchi.
In stoppage time at the end of the first half, Sulemana took advantage of a lapse in concentration by the Bianconeri defence to beat Michele Di Gregorio, making it 1-0 to the visitors at half-time.
CABAL SCORES THE EQUALISER IN THE SECOND HALF
In the second half, the first chance fell to Atalanta, with Nikola Krstovic misfiring in the 52nd minute and failing to hit the target from a good position. Just before the hour mark, Juventus made their first substitutions, with Weston McKennie and Dusan Vlahovic coming on for Thuram and Adzic, followed a few minutes later by Edon Zhegrova and Joao Mario to give the team new energy in attack.
However, the result was not what they had hoped for, with Atalanta defending without taking any risks in the first half hour of the second half.
Coach Igor Tudor was then forced to make a final substitution in the 75th minute, replacing Bremer with Juan Cabal due to physical problems. It was Cabal who found the back of the net for Juventus, taking advantage of hesitation in the visitors' defence and coolly scoring in the 78th minute.
Juventus found new energy and also numerical superiority, with the referee sending off Marten de Roon in the 80th minute, but they failed to find the winning goal despite an excellent chance for McKennie from a corner kick in the final minute.
The match ended 1-1, the Bianconeri's third consecutive draw across Serie A and the Champions League.
