The Juventus Women's First Team's season came to an end with a 1-0 loss in the Women’s Italian Cup final.
Manuela Giugliano’s goal in the 80th minute proved decisive in Roma’s 1-0 victory at the “Romeo Menti” Stadium in Vicenza.
THE MATCH REPORT
Juventus started the game on the right foot on a hot afternoon in Vicenza, putting pressure on the Italian champions and testing the Giallorosse defense with a shot by Eva Schatzer in the 14th minute that was blocked.
Moments later, Martina Lenzini’s volley from a well-worked corner kick missed the target, while in the 21st minute, Anna Csiki became the first Roma player to attempt a shot, but it posed no threat to Danielle De Jong.
Juventus' best chance came in the 24th minute courtesy of Estela Carbonell, who attempted an accurate shot from the edge of the box. The ball was headed for the top corner, but Rachele Baldi made a superb save.
The match remained evenly balanced even after the cooling break—necessary due to the high temperatures—with Juventus easing off the pressure and Roma trying to break out. There was still time before half-time for a second shot by Carbonell, who was set up well by Lia Walti but was unable to hit the target, so the hald ended 0-0.
In the second half, the Giallorosse created a couple of chances to break through the Bianconere defense in the first 10 minutes, before Barbara Bonansea collapsed to the ground and asked to be substituted, with Coach Massimiliano Canzi sending Lindsey Thomas on in her place.
In the 65th minute, Juventus came close to taking the lead following a corner kick. Lenzini took a shot and Frederikke Thogersen made a save on the goal line.
Emma Kullberg and Michela Cambiaghi also came off the bench, but the match was decided by Giugliano’s goal in the 80th minute: Alayah Pilgrim played the ball out wide on the right, the cross was flicked on by Evelyne Viens to Giugliano, who controlled it and beat De Jong from close range.
It was a decisive strike that allowed Roma to win the Italian Cup.
